Sysco is the global leader in selling and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare, and educational facilities, lodging establishments, and other customers who prepare meals away from home. Its product family also includes equipment and supplies for the foodservice and hospitality industries.
With more than 600,000 clients, the company operates approximately 330 distribution facilities worldwide and provides service in over 90 countries. Sysco is ranked No. 54 in the 2018 Fortune 500 list of the largest United States corporations by total revenue.

Watch this recording featuring Bojan Elez from Sysco talking about OpenText Exstream upgrade, custom VPOM dashboard development, and the move to the AWS cloud project.

As a Fortune 100 leader and the world’s largest food distributor, Sysco must always run on the latest supported software solutions in order to stay compliant with industry standards and regulations.
Sysco recognized that its OpenText CCM and ECM solutions were nearing the end of their product support lifecycle.
As the company prints large volumes of distribution documents (so-called “Driver Ready Packs”) on an ad hoc basis in very short time windows, they couldn’t risk incurring a fine due to a delay caused by a system outage in a legacy solution.
On the other hand, Sysco decided to modernize the apps and accelerate time-to-market by moving Microsoft Workloads, as well as OpenText Document Presentment and Archiving (ADA), to a private cloud provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS).
“For us at Sysco, the learning and improvement process never stops. We are always looking for new avenues of improvement. Over the years, OpenText has always been a great product vendor, continually adding new features to its products.
And Ecodocx has been a really good service provider and partner of ours for a long, long time. They constantly empower us to go out and benefit from the latest available features. They always provide strong expertise and great development and coding skills, which we don’t have in-house. This helps us to continue moving forward with our business improvements.”

CCM and EOM Solution Architecture and Administration at Sysco

The current team members at Ecodocx have supported Sysco since day 1 of their journey as an OpenText customer. As for now, Sysco Foods, a Fortune 100 company and industry leader, is one of our most loyal customers.
Because of our long-standing and close cooperation and the team’s strong expertise in delivering professional and custom development services, Sysco turned to the Ecodocx team and asked them to support them during this project. The team of Ecodocx provided a wide range of services:
Provided end-to-end upgrade from OpenText StreamServe 5.6.2 to OpenText Exstream 16.x, and OpenText Archiving and Document Access from 10.5 to 16.x. In addition, the team helped to enhance existing OpenText print jobs and projects in OpenText Exstream.
To save time and resources, Ecodocx combined the upgrade and move-to-cloud project stages. This allowed both teams to eliminate duplicated project stages. As a result, tighter integration and better performance between the OpenText products could be achieved.
Sysco replaced its ERP system used for invoice management. The upgraded solution was connected to the new ERP system.

Ecodocx helped Sysco run on the latest supported solutions, gain a 360-degree view of all document production processes, stay regulatory compliant, and minimize the risk of system shutdowns and related fines.
On the one hand, the company can now take advantage of many new features and streamlined processes, including an out-of-the-box version-tracking system (Common Asses Services CAS), a job-tracking application (Supervisor), new marketing campaign functionality, and improved on-demand document generation.
By moving its business-critical applications to AWS, Sysco has improved application performance and modernized them in ways it couldn’t before, speeding time-to-market and allowing it to focus on its core mission of efficient food distribution.
Ecodocx assisted Sysco while upgrading and moving their document production, job monitoring, and archiving processes to the cloud. As of now, Ecodocx continues to assist Sysco in enhancing existing and new Document Presentment projects and moving them to AWS.
